This last week I got Director status on
YouTube. A lot of people on YouTube just upload other people's stuff, so they've decided to give special attention to those of us who are creating our own content. And now they're putting random links to director videos on the side of the page whenever you watch a video. My video views went from ten thousand something to one hundred thousand something just over the course of this weekend. The one clip that is getting the most play and the most vile comments I've ever seen is the
rough cut of my Tookie Williams Execution short documentary. I expect a bunch of self-righteous types doing the whole "getting tough on crime" routine, but it's the
hardcore racism of some people that really makes me sad about the state of American society today. I know that there are always going to be ignorant people out there who have all sorts of issues with race, but I try not to expose myself to those sort of people. So when I do see people spouting off with the "N" word and talking about how everything is the fault of the Jews who control the world, it leaves me cold. And the levels of hate that some of these people show towards people that they don't even know, just based on differences of opinion is a bit frightening.
I think the other thing that surprises me is how passionate some people are about execution. The blood lust that these people show disturbs me, as is the way they so cavalierly talk about people needing to die.
