Sleater Kinney @ Vegoose - Oh
OK, here's another Sleater Kinney song from Vegoose. I've got 9 more of these and probably not enough Sleater Kinney anecdotes to go with them all, so I'll try to spread them out. The first time I saw this band was at the 9:30 club in DC in 2000. They were touring for All Hands on the Bad one. The first opening act was this two piece of a bassist/singer and a drummer. They were really boring so my friend and I went and had a beer downstairs. We heard that the next opening band was on stage and went back up to check them out. It was another two piece, and I was about to go back downstairs. My buddy suggested we at least give them a try, so we did. There was a girl on drums and a guy playing guitar and singing. They were both dressed in all red. The music was blues-based rock with a definite late 60's Brit-rock sound. At one point, the guitarist was playing this hollow body gibson with a slide and sounded exactly like Jimmy Page. The entire audience of jaded indie rock fans who usually ignore the opening band were standing there blown away at how good this band was, and people were rushing to the merch booth to buy their CD. In case you haven't figured it out yet, that band was the White Stripes and a year later they were everywhere. But enough about them, here's more Sleater Kinney...

The only problem I have with Sleater Kinney is that I discovered them right around the middle of last June, so every time I hear "Entertain" all I can think of is either Michael Jackson or the Terri Schiavo autopsy. Bleh.
Golf, that's awful! I always associate them with my wife. We were just starting dating the first time I saw them. She had been into them since their first album, and I was just getting into them at the time. She always says that she doesn't like anything newer than The Hot Rock, but I really liked All Hands on the Bad one. I highly recomend you grab some of their older albums though. Call The Doctor, Dig Me Out, The Hot Rock and All Hands on the Bad one are great. I'm not that into their first self titled album as much, but those next four are classic.
I'm just now discovering their joy...my first and only listen to Sleater-Kinney? The Woods.
I like what I hear, though.
I really like what I've hear from The Woods. It's a bit of a departure from their old sound, much more riff based, but it's a great album. I highly recommend checking out their earlier stuff though.
