Blog Drama and the Music of Mass Suicide

I had a bit of blog drama this morning. I created a Battle of the Blogs over on Blog Explosion in the politics category. That means that only other blogs in the politics category can accept the challenge and everybody can vote on it. The blog that took the challenge was most definitely not even remotely a politics blog, and I made a snarky comment about it there. And then I got a tirade about what a horrible human being I am for being sarcastic. I should have left his comments up to illustrate what a whiny and petty little bitch he was being. I don't usually delete comments, but he deleted mine, including my genuine apology for hurting his feelings. That earned me another angry reply over here. Of course, my response to that, in essence telling him to man up and stop being such a drama queen over silly and petty crap, didn't go over too well either and now I'm no longer welcome to comment there which just makes me just want to cry into a cosmo about it with my girlfriends. There will be no link to this incredibly thin skinned and oversensitive blogger, but Matt, if you're reading this while voting against me in another blog battle, don't forget to change your tampon.

And speaking of bloody things (OMG, did I really just segue with that? Somebody slap me!)... the WMFU blog has posted MP3's of the People's Temple gospel album. They posted it 2 years ago, but I just read about it today over at Metafilter. They recorded the album five years before Jim Jones talked 900 or so of them into committing mass suicide at his Jonestown compound in Guyana. And if that's not enough music from murderous cult leaders for you, did you know that Charles Manson released an album of new material just recently under a creative commons license (also found in that metafilter thread)?

    Jason,
haven't you figured out that 90% of those douchebags are like that? BE is one giant clique for the most part. it's mostly a bunch of drama queens, trying to validate their own pathetic existance through the internet. most of 'em use some cartoon graphic of a georgeous girl, when, in fact, they are a PIG. too many sites there where what you see is definately not what you get.
the guy you got into it this morning with is probably a queen himself. hey, though, for what it's worth, I like your posts.

    rock on!

Thanks for the comment, Doc! You would not believe the level of drama coming out of this guy. It was like a teenage girl. He told me he'd never vote for me again or drop an entrecard on me. Oh noes! I've actually made some decent blogging friends on there, made a few blogging enemies, and even forged a few voting alliances. Most of the time, I try to be nice. I figured a guy would be able to take a little sarcasm like a man.

Too funny! A clique at BE? I thought all that died with the shoutbox. OrangeHaired Boy must have flipped the wrong switch.

Sarcasm in the Blogosphere? Imagine that! Anyway, good to see some drama at BotB, although absent of a decent flame war due to comment deletion. Yuck, what is the world coming to?

Well I through my hat in the ring at Battle of the Blogs only to see you accept my challenge!

Aagh! What chance do I have have(sob)against you?

I always vote for your blog when I see it there in a battle.. you actually have CONTENT and damn good content to boot

Otilius, great to get a comment from one of the few bloggers that I'm afraid to take a challenge from. I love your photos. I'm originally from the Hudson Valley, so your pictures always make me a little bit homesick. I guess it could be said that I started it, but a simple "fuck you" would have sufficed rather than the paragraph upon paragraph of high drama.

And Susanna, thanks for the kind words. I'm always very happy to hear from somebody who actually likes what I have to say. And look, you beat me!

Well, I for one am disappointed to read this. I have always enjoyed your blog and I love your wit. However, posting your dirty laundry in your blog is a pretty classless act. Apparently the guy who offended you so is Matt, because you name him after you say you're not going to name him because comments were deleted. I have usually found that when I have a disagreement with someone, it's best to do so through private email. Perhaps Matt agrees with this philosophy and that's why your comments were deleted. A personal argument should not be aired in public. And from what I can tell, especially by your post, is that you're the one insistent on perpetuating the issue.

You might want to take a look in the mirror before referring to others as "bitch" and "douchebag".

Hi Matt! You don't have to use a fake name here. Look, I've got nothing personally against you, but I do think you acted a little bit girly about the whole thing, now to the point of calling yourself Susan.

People LOVE drama. People can't get enough personal dirty laundry. Just flip through the TV dial and internet these days. It's reality show after self help show after celebrity gossip show after police video show. I don't look to get into flame wars, but when they're brought on, I typically like getting the last word, and I like carrying them on in a public forum. The last place I would want to carry on with any of that is in private email. When I get into it with someone, I like to do it with all the wit and sarcasm I use on this blog. In a one on one situation, that's wasted on one person who is all pissed off and not even really reading it all.
