    The Jetsons is Reality

OK, so we still don't quite have flying cars that fold into a briefcase or sassy robot maids, but I always thought that the coolest thing the Jetsons had were the video phones. Sure, they've had computer videoconferencing for years now, and even those satellite video phones that they use on the news. But everyday people don't always want to hook up a little camera to their computer and put on a dorky looking headset so they don't echo. Voice over IP phone service has been getting better over the last few years as well. And now these technologies are finally catching up to the point where this kind of hardware with affordable high quality service is being offered to everyday consumers like me. Packet8 is one company that has combined affordable videophone technology with affordable high quality VoIP service that will get you all hooked up and ready for video chat. Of course, like any advance in technology, the potential for this to be used for the purpose of titillation just goes without saying. It would be great for business to let people see the kind of people with whom they are making deals. But for me, I would think that the biggest and most important application for this would be for far away family members to see each other while talking.

Packet8 has 2 different video phones. One is a very feature-rich desk phone which would be cool for me except that as the father of a toddler who all of my relatives would want to see, it's not that easy to keep her in one place. That's why I would want to get the Packet8 Tango. It's a plug and play handheld Video Phone! Just look at this thing:

It slices, it dices! Actually, it doesn't do either, but it lets you talk and watch at the same time. I could go into the rest of the features, but that's really the only feature that matters, isn't it? The plans are cheaper than most regular phone services with unlimited calling and long distance, with video. I'm all over this.

I have to set up a video chat wit you guys when you get back. This thing looks pretty cool, though.

Yeah...flying cars. The day more than 10 people own one will be the day it starts raining cars!
