How did this kid (1.9mb realvideo) manage to get past Karl Rove and on camera is beyond me. (via metafilter)
Politics, film, pop culture, whatever I feel like posting is what you will likely find here. Originally started as the production diary for my first film, this blog has since taken on a life and death and rebirth of its own. Come for the opinions and stay for the sarcasm.

The original Night of the Living Dead has somehow managed to fall into the public domain due to some paperwork screwup. You can download it in various formats here. If anyone is up for colaborating on a "remix" of this film, please contact me.
Wondering what I've been up to at work this week? I can't believe I get paid to do stuff like this!
Who would have thought that Howard Stern.com would be such a great source for news? Ever since he got dropped from Clear Channel, his website has become a portal for free speech and anti-Bush articles. Don't miss Hunter S. Thompson on Bush, The Passion of the Stern movie poster, and the mp3 of Bad American Presidents: George W. Bush. Do not attempt to reach this site if you're on a government computer or within Clear Channel's networks (including their concert venues). It's blocked.

Ah, here's a name I haven't heard in a while... Joey Buttafuoco. Just the sound of his name makes me chuckle. Who needs the article?

Yesterday I went to my very first protest since I've been in San Francisco, so I figured I'd shoot some video. It's a 6.2mb realvideo file. I tried to do it in Quicktime but I coulnd't seem to get the compression quite right to make it look good and be a reasonable size. It was a typical ANSWER affair, but a bit more festive than their DC protests.

Colin Powell's son and his FCC are going on a crusade against "indecency" with the tolerance and tenacity of the Taliban. Howard Stern, Bono and others are the target of the latest right wing cultural jihad.

I've finally added an rss feed. If you know what to do with one of those, it's here. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, you can read all about the world of news aggregators right here. The particular feed I'm using is called Atom and you can read more about that here.
Here are some photos from the film shoot that I assistant directed this last weekend, shot by actor/producer Colin Hussey. The film is called Tourorism and it's about a famous couple of dolls whose long time romance has come to an end with the involvement of another doll famous for his kung fu grip.
When I was in jr high and high school, one of my friends' dads owned a fireworks company, giving us young pyros access to stuff that no young pyros ever should have access to. We did some pretty stupid things, but never anything quite this stupid [3.5 MB Windows Media]. (via metafilter)

You ever see polling statistics and wonder why you never get asked these questions? From time to time I get polled by Zogby. I'll get an email with a dynamic URL that will only allow me to take it once. The polls have typically been your standard political climate sort of questions: is Bush doing a good job, who would you vote for, who did you vote for last time, what issues are important in an election year, etc... plus some standard demographics questions. Would you like to be polled too? They're looking for more people.

Here's a flash game to see if you have what it takes to be a Washington Intern Gone Bad. And for anyone interested in the Washington political machine, check out Staffers tonight at 9 on the Discovery Times Channel (which I apparently do not get).
I came across a great article about just how wingnutty the rightwingnuts who run this country are: They Can Already Taste blood and They are Ready to Kill... Our America. (via metafilter)

| It's a tripple header of Bush manipulating the media: Bush administration pays actors to pose as TV journalists: "Congressional investigators are scrutinizing television segments in which the Bush administration paid people to pose as journalists praising the benefits of the new Medicare law, intended to help elderly Americans with the costs of their prescription medicines. The videos, a hybrid of advertising and journalism, are intended for use in local television news programs."
And they we've got the Department of Homeland Security is in the business of staging photo ops for Bush (see last paragraph on first page). "As the Bush team sorts out its internal mechanics, it will press the advantage of incumbency. Administration sources tell TIME that employees at the Department of Homeland Security have been asked to keep their eyes open for opportunities to pose the President in settings that might highlight the Administration's efforts to make the nation safer. The goal, they are being told, is to provide Bush with one homeland-security photo-op a month". Lastly, this is one Salon article worth watching an ad for: "He's the father of the modern attack ad, and he's behind the Bush campaign's new wave of anti-Kerry spots. Alex Castellanos is known as vicious, irresponsible -- and effective." |
Kay Greenleaf, the minister who officiated my sister's wedding, has been arrested for performing same sex weddings in my old post-college stomping grounds of New Paltz, NY.

Fun and addictive flash game called SIM, it's like a seedier version of the sims. (via Sarcasmo's Corner)
At the suggestion of a couple of other bloggers, I'm trying to set up an RSS feed. So I went through the settings on blogger, but aparently I need to set up some XML page to make it all happen. I looked through the developer documentation and found myself completely lost. So, I'm offering a free Washington Interns Gone Bad DVD to some kind soul who can help me get this set up. If you can do this, please contact me. Thanks.
Bush Poster a go go! Mithras has a whole bunch of snarky custom Bush/Cheney posters in PDF format for all your easy printing needs, and just in time for the March 20 Global Day of Protests! I might print up a batch of these with Washington Interns Gone Bad ads on the other side and hand them out at the protests here in San Francisco. I think maybe a variation on this one would be good.

Bush Poster Maker Update: Those bastards, they're on to us! Well, it was good while it lasted. It was all over the blogosphere today, to the point that servers hidden deep within the bowels of the Bush Cave were so swamped that people were getting the wrong message. I could only imagine the look on the face of some freeper getting a message like "4 More Years of Miserable Failure," or some guy like me getting "Jesus Loves George Bush." So, they finally put the kibosh on it. With the hundreds of people blogging about it today, there could potentially be tens of thousands of variations, many of which were saved and can be printed. How cool would it be if these started showing up everywhere?

This woman has been on the grift here in the Bay Area for a few years. She pretends to be a parent looking for a nanny on craigslist, then asks for references, drivers license and social security number, then she uses their identity and references to get a nanny job where she rips off the family she's working for. Anne got a sketchy-sounding email asking for her references not too long ago and now we're thinking it might have been this scam artist. I hope that the publicity will help warn any potential victims.

More on those new Bush ads: of the very few facts shown, one of them was an outright lie. Also, the International Association of Fire Fighters have come out swinging against these ads' exploitation of their fallen members from 9/11.
Salon takes a look at the whole Howard Stern/Clear Channel controversy, wonders about the political motivations, and discusses Clear Channel's links to Bush and institutionalized conservatism.
Now that John Kerry pretty much wrapped up his nomination, the campaign has begun and Bush's first move is-- big surprise --exploiting 9/11.
