Caprica S1 E3 The Reigns of a Waterfall

I’m still not quite sure I really like this show. It’s hard to think about it without thinking of Battlestar Galactica, and I wonder if it would really hold up independently. But I suppose I’ll keep watching it and since I have this new blog I might as well keep writing about it. Don’t go past the jump if you don’t want spoilers.

So this episode starts off in the aftermath of Amanda Greystone’s revelation that Zoe was part of the terrorists who blew up the mag lev train in the pilot episode. Things are not going well for the Greystones. The press are mobbing them, their stocks are tanking, their pyramid team players want to get traded, and Amanda, now referred to as “Terror Mom,” even gets a bottle hurled at her. Probably the best thing about this episode is the take on the media which, surprise surprise, looks a whole lot like our 24 hour cable news here. And their version of a Jon Stewart/Jay Leno hybrid is played by the great Patton Oswalt who we should be seeing more of in the next episode.

Daniel Greystone gets the frak kicked out of him by Sam Adama who is revealed to be married to a dude named Larry. I suppose this makes up for Gaeta’s man-fling being segregated to a webisode on BSG. The future (oh wait, it’s actually millions of years ago in a galaxy far far away, isn’t it?) is much cooler about not discriminating based on sexual preference than they are about monotheism. Of course, I’m sure that today’s monotheist culture warriors are all up in arms over the big bad liberal Hollywood agenda trying to make their kids catch the gay, but that’s not the kind of rant I’m going to get into here and now.

So Apollo’s gramps wants to get back into the virtual world to see his daughter’s avatar (or is it more than just an avatar?) again, but she’s not there because the Zoe/cylon/more-than-just-an-ordinary-avatar and Lacy let her loose into cyberspace. Uh oh!

The episode ends with Joe hinting to Sam that he wants Amanda Greystone offed since he lost a wife and daughter in the explosion and Daniel only lost a daughter. Are they really going to kill off a main character this early on? Of course, she could also end up as another cylon. We shall see.

  • Oooh… I like the new look… vote, vote, vote (and not just the usual tit for tat!)

If saying mean things about icky Howard Stern is what it takes to bring Jason Buckley back to the blogosphere, I’ll start doing it daily!

OK, I’ll let you take credit for my return :)

It’s been a long time coming. I was really burnt out on politics once the afterglow of the election wore off, my former job was getting really intensely bad, and I’ve been focusing a lot of my energies on playing music. Then I got laid off right before the holidays, jumped into an accounting class, put even more time into music, and then a few weeks ago got a killer new job (in this economy even – I still can’t believe it). So the dust has finally settled and I thought I’d start a fresh new year with a fresh new blog and here we are.

  • After seeing this i decided to give it a try to this TV Show. I`m already on episode 5 and it looks great. Thanks a lot admin !
